An Ode To No One

From 6:30 - 11:30 I was with my dad in the kitchen talking/watching videos.
It all started with him saying,

I’m really proud of you. You don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs. You’re your own person and I respect that, and your will power… Everything except for your music.

WELL LET ME JUST SHOW YOU SOMETHING.

So I brought up my laptop and showed him different documentaries/video clips about straight edge, what it means, and how it all started.

He was a teenager during the 60’s and could relate to how they wanted to rebel, but he refused to be a “hippie”. So he put all of that energy into something positive and focused on sports and school, instead of smoking weed.

I’ve always liked to keep it real, and I never drink to get drunk. Sure I have a drink here and there at weddings or celebrations, but that’s about it. And smoking? You must be a real idiot to put that crap into your body knowing very well what it does to your insides.  I used to hangout with a group of kids who used to steal, break things and smoked and drank. I thought to myself, that’s not who I am and not how I want to be. So I stopped hanging out with them, and found guys who didn’t care to drink or party.

After that whole spiel, I made him watch Earthlings and it really turned him off of meat, and I think he cried. I was trying so hard to not bawl out my eyes, since apparently I cry like a baby every single time I watch it.

Anyways, I’ve learned a lot about him that I never knew, and I’m sure he’s learned a lot about me and of my choices/reasons/influences  and where they came from to make me how I am today.

Today was a solid day.
